Duck Beach: Day 1, (Thursday night) Friday

So the long awaiting Duck Beach finally happened.  It started off Thursday May 22nd.  Courtnie and Sara took one for the team and headed over to Jersey to pick up our rental cars.  The rest of us (Jaclyn, Chelsie, Lyndee, and David) met them at Newark Penn Station and we were off to Delaware!
We drove for about three hours and stayed the night in an awesome suite at a Marriot.  The next morning we were off for our 6ish hour drive to the Outer Banks North Carolina.  Everyone was surprised to hear we were driving, as most people fly to Norfolk and then drive the two hours, but the time actually flew by, and it was a ton of fun driving through different states and seeing different parts of the south.  Sara's car picked up Ryan along the way, so at that point we had 8 people total.  The states we were physically in during the two day trip include: New York, New Jersey, Delaware (all the first night,) Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.

Our car ride was a total blast (except for the part when Court got a ticket for talking on her phone)  Sitting in back were my roommate Jaclyn, David (who's from Scottland and has the most amazing, thickest accent it almost seems fake) and Courtnie drove.

It was such a beautiful drive when we finally got near water.

Taking a little driving break to take in the gorgeous water.

So if you ever have a chance to drive over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel I highly recommend it.  We had no idea what we were in for.  So we had a million tolls along the way, so we got used to handing over $5, $2, $6, etc.  But we were definitely all shocked when we got to the toll before "some bridge" and the toll lady told us $12.  Twelve bucks?!  Lame.  So we paid it and quickly realized why.  It's the 22 mile bridge-tunnel that alternates going above the water and under, kinda self explanatory I guess.  It was just really cool how long it was, and going above and below.

The area between the two rocky points is where the tunnels is below; we'd just driven through it....weird.

So I wasn't actually at Costco but I shamelessly stole this pic from Jen Fernie (a few others of the pics you'll see were stolen from her; she's an amazing photographer.)  Our lovely planners went to Costco to stock up on food for the week for 65 people staying in two beach mansions.  Total bill?  $3000.

The first night there was a party at one of the DC houses called Black Pearl.  This house was AMAZING.  I mean, I really can't even explain how awesome it was.  Imagine the biggest, craziest house you've ever been in, most likely in a super rich gated community.  It was pretty much like that.  Well, most of the houses down there were.  The party was pretty overwhelming.  Parties are typically slightly overwhelming for me anyways, but just imagine walking into a place and just seeing hundreds of strangers you're supposed to mingle with.  Occasionally I'd see someone I knew, but it pretty much was like starting from scratch.  It was pretty clear, however, that most people were overwhelmed.
I did my best to meet a few new people, and got to know some awesome new friends.

I spent a while by the pool chatting with Russ and Adam from DC.  I was floored to find super tall guys!  Russ is 6'8" and Adam is 6'5".  I couldn't help but take a pic.  Someone else cool I met that night was Bryan Kehl, who was just drafted from BYU, but unfortunately I didn't get a picture with him.

I couldn't resist taking a picture in the elevator.  Yes, the elevator in the house.

After the party we headed back to the New York house we were staying in, Pine Haven.  We didn't have the other New York house, Sun Terra, until the next day so for the first night everyone was crashing at our house.  It was a ton of fun, especially for those of us that had beds.  :)  We all chilled, danced, ate, talked, hot tubbed, etc, for a while, but at 2am I finally went to bed.
